I am very impressed with OwnDays from Japan. Today, on the spur of the moment, I took up their offer of buying a specs and getting the second one for 50% less. I really wanted to try out their service as I see lots of customers in their shops especially over the weekend. Firstly, I was pleasantly surprised by their service level. The salesman followed me around the shop recommending spectacle frames to me. Then, after I have selected 2 frames, he then introduced me to an optician to check my eyesight. I was truly amazed by the state of the art equipment that they have to test one's eyesight. Seems like I have been transported to the future as I was used to having my eyesight tested in the older spectacle shops where their equipment is probably as old as the shops. Following which, I was introduced to the cashier and he was as efficient and as polite as the salesman and the optician. I was then asked to go back to the shop in 20 minutes to collect one of the specs. The other one needed a week as it was a rimless design. Within 20 minutes, I had selected my specs, had my eyes tested and paid for the items. Amazing as I would have usually taken an hour at least in the older optician shop. Moreover, I used to pay upwards of $400 for my specs as the traditional shops price the frame and the lens separately. In OwnDays, I selected their top range and paid $300 for 2 specs. I think they are really transforming the optical industry here in Singapore and will give all the traditional optical shops a real headache. Not only are they cheaper, but they are faster and offer great service and ambience. They have also created the differentiation that they are modern and better by using all the state of the art equipment. Moreover, this is an internet proof retail business as those of us who wear glasses like to test our eyesight every time we order a new pair of glasses. The testing is usually free and this certainly cannot be done online. It is always a joy to see businesses transforming industries and I am sure OwnDays will do very well indeed. Sadly, they are not listed here! www.owndays.sg/
