Even though the query was on a a long admission to hospital, NTUC somehow stopped all payments even for my biweekly chemotherapy sessions since Oct and now, they owe me over $250,000. Hence, don't count on your insurance when you need them most. They will find all kinds of excuses not to pay on time. I had 2 short admissions to hospital after that and they too have not paid for these even though these were over a month ago. What a terrible experience with this insurance company! Hence, don't believe your insurance salesman when he tells you the benefits of these insurance policies. At best, these type of insurance is best seen as a reimbursement insurance.... ie, if you intend to go to a private hospital, be prepared to pay everything up front first, as one never knows when or if your insurance company will pay you back! It is only when such instances are bought up to the media that the insurance company does what is right for its "clients". As for me, I was hospitalised in Oct 2015, paid the hospital in cash and still waiting for NTUC to refund my money! |

NTUC finally paid me the hospital bill. I was hospitalised in Oct 2015, paid for the hospital bills as they were due and only after 3 and a half months, was I paid back the original sum. Always have a buffer if you intend to use private healthcare services even if you are fully insured.

I was the last person to have seen my late-mum in the hospital, one day before she passed away in 1979. That afternoon was unique...while she was eating her lunch on the hospital bed, suddenly, she turned her face to her right-hand side and started talking to the wall. I distinctly heard her making alot of noises in a different language which I couldn't understand and she felt agitated by moving her body, especially her hands. I was stunned and kept asking her what happened and I wanted to press the emergency bell at her bedside to get help. But just a few seconds later, she was back to her usual self and she even hurried me to leave for work (I was supposed to work the afternoon shift, from 3 to 11pm then). This strange phenomena had puzzled me for the past decades until I related it to my aunt (my late-mum's younger step-sister) whom had migrated to Australia and came back to Singapore to visit her mum, my step-grandmother, few years ago. According to her version, 阎王要你三更死，绝不留人到五更 i.e., although my late-mum had 'cheated death' but she had been 'negotiating' with the 牛头马面 who were supposed to fetch her 'home'. Happiness as medicine ~ 21 Oct 2015 My late-mum had stage 4 breast cancer and after surgery with expensive and extensive follow-up treatments, she had happily outlived an extra 24 months (6+24=30 months). It was a miracle to everyone, including the respective doctors and the surgeons who had treated her then. (We were told to prepare for the worst and hope for the best as her chance of survival was extremely impossible; at most only 10% and at best only have 6 months to live.) The stock market is a mind game. Likewise, positive thinking / happiness as medicine is also a mind game. |
