Jesse Livermore's Reminiscences of a Stock Operator is a good book to read for all wannabe traders. If I recall, he used the earliest form of charting. Perhaps his downfall was because he betted larger and larger amounts of money every time he made money. Sooner or later, his luck will change and at that time, it will probably be his largest bet.
I always feel that to trade successfully one needs to stick rigorously to a strict cut-loss system. When the stars are not in your favour, one needs the courage and the commitment to sell without any second thoughts.
