Oldman, there is a program called startisback that will convert windows 8 to lookalike windows 7.. www.startisback.com/Windows 8 is faster than Windows 7 in start up initially but I use it only in the gaming computer because my metastock does not like it. Now that I have upgraded the harddrive to SSD and put my data mining software on RAMDrive, I don't need Windows 8. May be I need a faster network connection between computers and the internet.

Thank you very much. Quite reasonably priced as well. $3 for 1 copy. $2 each for 5 copies. Appreciated. My Win 8 PC is now having shutdown problems and I had to create a shortcut to speed up the shutdown! My understanding is that some processes take a long time to shut and this shortcut basically kills all processes immediately. www.redmondpie.com/how-to-add-windows-8-shutdown-restart-shortcuts-to-start-screen-taskbar-and-desktop/

Thanks Oldman, it make good sense to buy a cheap laser printer than to pay the same for a refilled. With a new printer, one can always refill it with toner that cost only about $25/= per bottle that will be enough to refill 2 cartriges until the cartridge's drum wear out. Have been using Samsung all the time, good printer.. how about the Brother that you have bought?

One good way to overcome email scam is to install a software called mailwasher or similar product www.firetrust.com/products/mailwasher-proWhat it does is to download the titles of the email from various email accounts that one has; then, one can go through them and select only those trusted to be read by mail reader such as Outlook or Outlook express. It is capable of filtering out scam messages and also emails. Only problem is sometimes, it also filter out the good mail and have to be retrieve from the recycle folder.

I am sure it is equally as good as the Samsung laser printer which the whole family likes a lot. It is not so easy to refill the Samsung laser printer unless one drills a hole in it. Will read up more about this when the time comes. The Brother one looks easy to fill as one can see the cap for the toner.....

How fast is Solid State Drive (SSD)? It is about 5 times as fast as ordinary magnetic hard disk drive when reading and for some SSDs, the writing is a bit slower but still more than 3 times as fast. skyjuiceiswater.blogspot.sg/2013/07/how-fast-exactly-is-solid-state-drive.htmlI have just upgraded my E8400 with a ASUS P5Q PRO motherboard with a new SamSung 840 EVO 250GB for less than S$200/= including the ASMEDIA PCEI card that converts the motherboard from SATA2 to SATA3. The test result speaks for itself.. One can get cheaper SSDs from Amazon with free shipping except a charge of $6/= for local transfer from the following site: www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Dus-worldwide-shipping-aps&field-keywords=samsung+840+proOnly one snag, it is a US warranty.. the local ones cost around S$260/=. Amazon prices will change; the lowest is around US$140/=. As for the ASMEDIA PCIE card, one can get from ebay for about S$15/=, shipped free to doorstep. Just plug and play after that. For newer motherboard that has SATA3, there is no need to buy ASMEDIA card unless one has run out of connections. For older motherboards that does not have a free PCIEx4 slot (most only has PCIEx1 or 1 PCIEx4 slot), the ASMEDIA card can only run as fast as 200 MB, limited by the transfer speed of the PCIEx1 slot. However, most found speed improvements even using on-board SATA2 connections. For Samsung's SSD drive, it comes with a Samsung migration software called "Magician". This makes cloning of any hard disk a simple job. The "magician" can clone hard disk live with Windows operating system running at the background. It will always select the running operating system as the default C: irrespective of whether one is running the operating system from other partitions. I have a problem cloning harddisk using commercial software like ACRONICS when I have running operating system in partition 1 and the master boot record sectors(MBR) in partition 0. One would have to clone both partition 0 and 1 for proper operation unless one can transfer the MBR. For those who have trouble upgrading their laptop or desktop from magnetic drives to SSDs, I hope I can help.

Hibernating and sleeping the computer will save energy especially when you don't often use the computer and does not want to wait for starting up the computer every now and then.
Hibernation will save the things in the RAM to harddisk or other non-volatile memory. When one re-starts or wakes up the computer, it will load the memory from the harddisk and the computer will return to exactly the same spot before hibernation.
Sleeping or standby mode will do the same, except the RAM remains actively powered thorough the period; therefore, it consumes slightly more energy.
Many users will find that after some time using the hibernation mode, the computer will act strangely. Sometimes, a reboot will not return the computer to its previous glory. Program got hang up for no reason; operating system slows down like dragging a ton of steel. This is mainly because of harddisk errors. When hibernation mode is turned on, the computer will reserve a chunk of memory in the harddisk for the storage. The constant saving and retrieving of information for the same spot wears out the disk much faster and hence, the disk error. It is good therefore to use hibernation mode if one must do so for various reasons. Turn on the sleeping or standby mode is the way to go. When one turns off the hibernation mode, one can recover roughly about 2 gigabyte of harddisk memory depending on the size of the RAM

stockpicker, my Samsung laser printer just ran out of ink. Where do you buy your toner? Also, I was reading that one needs to put a new chip as well. Do you have this problem of the old chip not allowing the printer to work beyond a certain number of prints? Just tried printing through the new Brother laser printer. Print quality is equally as good. Thanks Oldman, it make good sense to buy a cheap laser printer than to pay the same for a refilled. There are few shops in Sim Lim selling all sort of printer toners though they may be slightly costlier than those operating from HDB flats. I will message your his contact number etc. I was told some cartridge has memory chip but there are fix that can overcome..mine just fill and forget.. now the printing record is over 6000 prints and still printing
