oldman, 9. “We shouldn’t buy trophies. The best thing is to train our own people and give them the experience. I wrote an article some time ago on how we were spending over $6 billion trying to raise productivity. I found out that we have 30,000 trained workers each year, if we took into account the graduates from all our universities, polytechnics and Institutes of Technical Education! Yet, our employers refuse to take them on because they say that while the graduates may have the theories, they may not be able to do the job!”Item No. 9 1. The real reason not to give our own people the opportunities to learn and have the relevant job experiences for future jobs boils down to dollars and cents (no money to make/collect or drastic reduce of levy fees if whatever good and/or menial jobs are 1st given to Singaporeans instead of foreigners). 2. Every qualified employers could get back good money from the Wage Credit Scheme (WCS), the larger the pool of foreigners they employ, the higher the disbursement they get (reimbursement is based on per person). When you give such a generous incentive not to employ Singaporeans, it translates to more money would be given to qualified employers for employing more foreigners. 3. This modified profitable business can be traced back to the early 30's where many poor China-Chinese citizens sold themselves as "piglets" (賣豬仔) to the human traffickers who acted as the "middle-man". These bloodsuckers could charge/earn a huge commission twice; one time from the respective bosses, one time from the "piglets". Foreign Workers:-- MOM will continue to tighten eligibility for Q1 pass holders.
- Minimum S Pass qualifying monthly salary will be increased from $2k to $2.2k from 1 July 2013.
- Dependency ratio ceilings will be cut. DRC in services will be cut from 45 per cent to 40 per cent.
- In construction, levy rates for less skilled Work Permit Holders in Construction Sector will increase by $150 between Jul 2013 and Jul 2015.
- All foreign worker levies will be increased 2014 and 2015.
1. The Government announced hikes in foreign worker levies in 2010 and 2011. 2. These levies will be up by $150 to $330 per worker by July 2013. 3. The monthly levy for an S-Pass holder has gone up from $160 to $250 in 2012 and will go up to $300 to $450 by July 2013. Singapore needs 900,000 foreign workers on two-year work permits Hard TruthsEst. levies to be collected from S-Pass holders, alone:As at June 2012; 128,000 S-Pass holders X $250 per person; every month = $32,000,000. By July 2013; 128,000 S-Pass holders X $450 per person; every month = $57,600,000. 賣豬仔

Saw the CNA news yesterday on the AHPETC issue. Really impressed with the way the law minister K Shanmugam put across his points and questioned the Workers' Party. AHPETC finances are a 'sorry state of affairs': Shanmugam - 13 Feb 2015 "Mr How and Ms Yeo could have been employed by AHPETC. There was no need to set up a new company to provide services to the town council. So, why set up FMSS? It was a convenient vehicle to which millions of dollars went from the town council. And another obvious question: money that went to FMSS - where did it actually go? What happened to it?" asked Mr Shanmugam.
"Mr Low (Thia Khiang), Ms (Sylvia) Lim keep saying there has been no loss. Maybe there was no one taking money, through the backdoor in the dark of the night. There was no need because the money was taken from the front door, in broad daylight. Through all this overcharging."
"As a lawyer, you will know that every town councillor owes fiduciary duties, and you know what fiduciary duties mean,” he said. “It will be a gross breach of those fiduciary duties to have allowed Mr Loh, Ms How and Mr Yeo to act as they did and rubber stamp what they did. You will be aware that such conduct is unlawful.

Very nice song. Easy to listen and catchy..... If this is a prelude to this year's NDP song, I'm really looking forward to it. It has been too long since they had a song that made me want to sing along.
