Oldman Sir,
I am new here but more than 10 years in shareinvestor.com. Since you left shareinvestor.com, the service there has deteriorated.. In the past, I was able to get your team to modify the webpage to incorporate additional information but not now..recently, I requested open price for STI index as there was none shown.. I was referred to open up the "Time and Sale" page, scroll to the very first page to read the open price.. very good taiji.. may be the Admin there should refer me to read the open price from Yahoo.com which is free..also, in the past, you allowed pple to download data using Excel for analysis, now, they tell to fly kites..
I have some difficulty getting into this page to post. As I click the topic TCSS, it directed me to a "guest" page where I was asked to login. I needed to click elsewhere to get into this page... why?

Stockpicker, welcome to Pertama.com! Yes, I recognise your ID. I will be moving some of these discussions over to the Welcome page shortly. Every system has its good and not so good points. The reason I am using the current forum engine is because I rather spend time talking in the forum than to manage the system. Yes, it takes a while to get used to this current forum. Basically, you need to be registered to post. Once registered, you should be logged in all the time and will not face the issue you described below. Have fun... but do give yourself time to get used to the system..... As for SI, it is difficult to replicate the passion that a founder has for his site. When I was in SI, I also had to struggle to get features requested by forummers to be implemented. As the company grew bigger, it got more difficult. This is why I hope that this site will always remain a kampung site..... small and manageable by one person. Oldman Sir, I am new here but more than 10 years in shareinvestor.com. Hi oldman, seems like Pertama forum is great place for you to meet "old friends" from your previous "baby". It is my loss to know about Shareinvestor forum only 2 years ago, missing out the great investing postings, especially by Mossie. By Mossie on Friday, June 30, 2000 - 12:08 am:
Folks, I have another story to tell. This time, it's a sad story.
Two days ago, I received word that my former remisier whom I dealt with during my days of folly (1995 to 1997), had just been served with a bankruptcy order. He's in his mid forties and he has four kids, the youngest just five years old. His wife has been forced to work again.
Apparently, his "clients'" contra losses amounted to $1.5m and the broking co. pulled the plug on him. The losses have been outstanding for the past two years. In reality, his "clients'" contra losses were actually his own. I guess I saw this coming years ago. He was actually my partner in "crime" because we essentially punted the same kind of counters. However, his play size was much larger, much much larger. When I contra-ed on positions of $100,000, his would be $300,000. I thought he would have learnt his lesson during the Asian crisis. When my semi-detached had to be liquidated, his private apartment had to be sold too. After I sold my house, I moved back with my relatives while he bought a resale 4 room flat.
The similarities between the two of us ended in 1997. Short of funds, I stepped out of the "casino" and went into a period of introspection for eight months. ==> I Analysed my Every MISTAKE using charts to pinpoint my entry & exit points. I was Determined not to trade at all until I knew Where I Went Wrong.
He, well, he stayed inside the casino and raked up another $1m in losses.
How did he rake up more losses? He felt that, since he had already lost his money, he might as well try to make it back. He tried all the various methods from spending thousands of $$ attending classes on Gann, to methods that involved trading according to stars. Yes, he was also a syndicate member in various counters. His determination to learn various trading methods was NOT the mistake he committed. His problem was that his EGO "told" him that he could beat Mr Market. He always felt that he was bigger than Mr Market. So he kept on initiating new positions, trading the little squiggles, the up's and down's.
He was HOPING that his trading profits provided his monthly salary. Before he knew it, he went beyond the point of no return. The losses amounted to millions.
I did try to get him to change. I shared with him my research on TIBS, showing him my photocopied copies of the LTA white paper. I showed him the charts of TIBS, how the stock had stopped falling. I told him I had spotted reversal patterns and used volume studies to prove that Invisible Hands (insiders) were accumulating stock. I shared what I thought were basement prices using charts, volume studies and fundamentals. You would have thought he would be interested in what I had to say. But, NO! His reply stumped me till today?? He said my strategy was the right strategy PROVIDED that I had the capital to HOLD for the long term. As for him, he doesn't have the capital and so, he had to trade/contra to MAKE the capital. In my mind, I remember clearly my thoughts then; he wasn't Jesse Livermore. Folks, let's stop & think about this for a while. ==> Are we OUR worse enemy? What are some trading habits we have that are SELF DESTRUCTIVE? Are we the lazy sort that expects "manna" & rumours to fall from heaven? Do you expect tips to make you money OR are you the sort that believe in hard work, to find out facts for yourselves.
==> Do you lay blame on yourself, the market & circumstances? Or do you think you are (attributes of fear & greed) your worse enemy?
As an active investor, I ask myself these questions every week.
I also remind myself, "BE DISCIPLINED or THE MARKET WILL DISCIPLINE ME". The Market is forever a disciplinarian, especially against those that are lazy & uninformed.
Folks, please set your own rules or the market will set its rules for you. forum.shareinvestor.com/archive/0EE7021D/0EE7038D/

Seems like there is no limit on age to achieve BIG Dream. Japan's 7-Eleven kingpin looks to US to inspire online revolutionPUBLISHED DECEMBER 24, 2013 [TOKYO] The 81-year-old Japanese executive who built 7-Eleven into the world's biggest convenience store chain has a new mission: turning more than 50,000 bricks and mortar stores in Japan into portals to a new online retail empire. To do it, Toshifumi Suzuki, the chief executive of department store to mail order retailer Seven & I Holdings Co , is once again seeking inspiration in the United States. It's over 40 years since he kickstarted a revolution in Japanese retail by bringing 7-Eleven stores across the Pacific, eventually buying the US owners after they sought bankruptcy protection. In Suzuki's future vision, goods ordered online from Seven & I's department stores and supermarkets, as well as outside partners, will be delivered to and picked up from the thousands of 7-Eleven stores spread across Japan at customers'convenience. Most are open 24 hours a day. "I've been talking for a while inside the company about integrating the real (bricks and mortar) side with the Internet, but nobody was taking it seriously," Suzuki told Reuters. In September, the Japanese retail guru decided to change all that. He dispatched about 50 heads of the group's companies - his top lieutenants - on a mission to the US He instructed them to visit retailers like Macy's Inc, shopping malls and Internet companies, examples of what he called "omnichannel" integration that are beginning to yield results - with orders to figure out how to apply it in Japan. "In the US they observed, they listened and they realised that this was possible, and now they're all motivated," Suzuki said. Thanks lemonade. I looked at SI more as an investment than as a business. It was already managed by a CEO and his team. Li ke every investment, there is a buy price and a sell price.
One must not be emotional over any investment as frankly, few businesses can last even a lifetime, as you correctly pointed out. I still have dreams of creating a Berkshire Hathaway like company based in Singapore.... though my forte will be to invest in regional internet companies.
Problem is that I am not rushed into doing anything and will take my time to build this. Pertama.com is just one part of the jigsaw.
After I have achieved this dream, then writing another book will be more meaningful. Hi oldman, perhaps the passion is the driving force in creating Shareinvestor that you could arrive at the decision to dispose the investment when the time is ripe so as to move on another project. When my brother was around 17 years, he mentioned that he had the ambition to become a millionaire, that drew laughter from us as we thought he is just dreaming. However, at the age of 39, he attained the status of millionaire. Look like it is time for me to Dream BIG.

Welcome to the Pertama forums! I have always enjoyed myself in the forums. Over the past few months, I have been trying out many different forum formats and hosting packages before finally deciding on this one. I like the flexibility of this forum and especially like the fact that this forum is hosted free of charge. There will be advertisements placed by the owner of the forum in the weeks ahead but I think this is a fair arrangement where the owner takes care of the technology and business aspects and I can focus exclusively on managing the forum. In the past, I had trouble with spam registrations and advertisements when I was hosting the forum on my own. I am hopeful that this forum arrangement will be able to prevent such spamming as it really is no fun having to delete hundreds of registrations daily. I am still learning about the many features of this forum and over the weeks and months ahead, I am most likely to add more features along the way. One of the key reasons why I am trying the forum format again is because the facebook and the blog formats do not allow anonymous postings and I have realised that internet users much prefer the forum format. Without interactions, it can be rather boring keeping a facebook or blog page. Here's looking forward to more people joining and having fun creating the 'kampong' spirit in this forum. To make it easier for everyone to remember the url of this forum, I have pointed www.Pertama.com to go directly to this website. Pertama is the Malay word for number one. Michael Leong / Oldman Director, Raditech Pte Ltd oldman, You've put in a lot of effort and time into Pertama forum for the benefit of regular readers.

Zuolun, you too have shared very openly and I too need to thank you. The site is around 3 months old and is feeling more and more like home. Over the months and years ahead, I am likely to add in more features apart from the forum to make it more and more complete. As always, I like taking my time as I always enjoy the journey rather than the endgame. oldman, You've put in a lot of effort and time into Pertama forum for the benefit of regular readers.

I guess I am one of those who look better in photos than in real life... yes, I too decided to dye my hair after all the comments. Also, I think having less stress helps a lot. I have a similar sentiment like Lemonade. Sometimes, I feel very disturbed when people questioned my motive for sharing in Valuebuddies just because I posted in another forum that are open to paid investment graduates. Life becomes complicated as a result. There is even instance where people termed the stuff that I posted as "useless" in Facebook (it maybe off-topics but at least I try to find investing topics to educate the mass), very disheartening as it takes lots of courage to post with real-name & face (compared to the silent readers that form the mass), unlike some who hide behind cyberspace.
Agree, look at SI of today!
So many ppl have so much ego.
In open forum, you roughly can gauge who is smoking the meat?
Ppl questioned your integrity with one posting of yours with biased stand.
BUT you see so much cyber bullying. Some use bombastic English. I keep it simple for the mass!

Candy188, most site owners want to commercialise their sites and hence, are not keen for users to divert their traffic to another site by creating hyperlinks. They need the traffic to support the banner advertisement revenues. I know because I have been there. In forming Pertama.com, I took a very different approach. This is probably because I don't need to commercialise this site .... in fact, the less traffic it has, the less I need to pay the hosting company (for an advert free environment)! Reason I made this change is because I feel that there are potential conflicts of interests between commercialising a site and building a strong community. I have a similar sentiment like Lemonade. Thank you for your kind words. Do check these threads out: pertama.freeforums.net/board/32/investment-strategiespertama.freeforums.net/board/26/money-lifeAs for my book, I think it is out of print and maybe best to get it from the public library. Unfortunately, there is no pdf version. Over the months, I have been extracting chapters from it to put in this site. Do join us here in the forums. I would rather chat here as many more can join us. Together, we are all more knowledgeable. Thanks. ----------------- Hi Dr, I came across some forum and realise that you are someone who is really knowledgable. I hope to be active in this forum , I like to know which topics will be there for new trader like myself to check it out? By the way, is there a PDF version of your book that I can made purchase online? Thanks

Welcome!
I saw your nick, recognised it and immediately approved. Had to implement the approval system as this site too had been hit by a number of spam registrations and advertisements.
Do join us here. We talk about everything. Frankly, this was the direction I wanted to take SI. That was why SI came up with homepages but my idea was voted down. Then we saw the creation of facebook and social media. Now, I am free to dream and to take Pertama.com wherever I see fit.
I much prefer talking through the forums as one's posting can be read by many others. Much more efficient use of my time. I don't really like any form of one to one communications unless it is absolutely necessary.... messaging included.
No, I am no longer associated in any way with SI. Now, I don't even use SI Station or the SI website.
For me, I am always on the lookout for a star IT programmer...
---------------------
Hello Dr Leong
Good to see that you are still very much active here in your new forum.....
Just wanted to say hi and get in touch. So how are things going? Are you actively running some other businesses? ....
Are you still with SI as an consultant? I only have your shareinvestor email address but I wasn't sure that I can still reach you there so I'm sending you a private message here.
Would you like to meet up over a lunch or a cup of coffee? I can meet you anywhere convenient for you.
Please let me know.
