I've a close friend who used to open a computer repair shop in early-2000. He was an ex-engineer, a naturalized Singapore citizen originated from Taiwan. He told me that eversince a Singapore Pools outlet opened next to his shop, all his clients had difficulties collecting their repaired computers with the big crowds queueing infront of his 300 sqft shop, regularly. He felt sorry for the innocent students, home-makers, old aunties and uncles, especially the retirees who were lured into a serious gambling addiction, slow and steady. He narrated that many real-life sad stories eventually ended very badly with suicide/death due to the popping / mushrooming of Singapore Pools outlets + illegal gambling dens in Singapore, island-wide.
