His Chinese girlfriend/newly married wife in China has one unique feature; among China-Chinese women, main interest is money...no money, no honey. I heard this story many times, still hearing them.. someone's brother bought a house for his girlfriend or his newly married wife in China.. and this is not new in Singapore..

It is hard to believe the story and this could happen also elsewhere not only in China.. only one word can describe.. GREED. The crane must be pretty cheap and in the first instance, one should suspect something is going wrong; otherwise, the crane would not be put up for sale again immediately.. Last time, I used to receive written mails saying that I have won a trip for two to some resorts and all we have to do is to attend a 30-minute show presented by the company at our convenience. We have been chased several times to make the appointment but we never take it as we knew nothing will come free.. sure enough, after some time, we read that many people got cheated into buying up products such as time shared holidays and complained.. believe this scam is still going on and would never stop all because of one word... GREED and there is nothing the law can do because it was done on willing buyer willing seller basis.

There used to be a travelling company operating in Pear Centre was said to be owned by a Chinese couple. They often advertise themselves in Groupon for offering the cheapest traveling to China and other areas in South East Asia. Many Singaporeans took up their offer just to complain later that the hotels were far to remote and the tours and food were not good. Some asked for refund of money because they bought costly herbal medicine which one can fetch cheaper in Singapore.. they even fight with the lady owner who was pregnant then.. a video went viral on youtube... but what can the Laws do? Again, on willing seller and willing buyer basis..

I've seen many Singaporeans fallen into such traps when I went to China for holidays thru travel agencies in the early-90's.

They are still sticking to the same trick but many learned smart and never buy anything. Recently, a local tour guide in Yunan scolded tourist for not buying things. en.kunming.cn/index/content/2011-11/08/content_2729179.htmIt is not any better in Hong Kong www.chinasmack.com/2011/stories/hong-kong-tour-guide-curses-fights-with-mainland-tourists.htmlThese people has to think something new otherwise, it will hurt the tourism industry. Because of the harassments, we like to travel DIY and if possible, on tours that have no tour guides (they issue coupons instead). We can save too; for example, our recent tour to New Zealand for 15 days cost us around $2,800 (about $2,600 excluding food) including car hiring in Wellington and Auckland and also an air flight from Queenstown to Auckland.. understand a standard package will cost more than $ 3,300/=. It was a good holiday except my daughter fell when she misstep the stairs and cut her lips. It became an unforgettable holiday for us. New Zealand is a nice country with spectacular sceneries, I've been there on a 30-day backpack holiday with YHA New Zealand from north to south and back to north, in the early-80's.

If you visit Hong Kong, never take up the offer of free 1/2 city tour in Hong Kong if you do not want to be harassed by the tour guides. We did not know the first time and thought it was an arrangement by their tourism board as it was stated so. We were taken for a ride in the bus and finally landed in many factories and shops. Naturally, we did not buy any and it made the tour guide very unhappy. Then this other tour guide wanted to take our picture and we refused.. but he insisted and said his boss would scold him if we don't allow them to take our picture so we obliged but told him that we would not want to buy those pictures.. true enough, they framed our pictures in porcelain which we did not buy but they did not do anything.. thinking over it, I still got cold sweat.. what happen if they tried to harass us.

The 1/2-day city tour arranged by the travel agent in S'pore was fine when I last visited Hong Kong wth my family in 2009. The tour guide never conned us to buy anything but she demanded the exact amount of tips (per person) to be paid to her and the driver b4 the go-ahead of the tour.
