One of the key benefits of being a full time investor is that I am always available if the market presents an opportunity. When I was working for others, my priority was for my work and only when I had free time, I looked at the stock market. I realise now that to be successful in the market, one needs to be available as and when an opportunity presents itself.
The opportunity may be to buy when there is a sudden surge in supply. This may be due to a force selling by a bank or financial institution. This selling frenzy usually does not last too long as there are many in the market who are also full time investors or traders. They will jump at such opportunities and if one is not available at that time, he will miss the boat.
The opportunity can also present itself if a large buyer appears and is buying into a stock that you hold. Such buyers usually want to buy a lot of shares very quickly and prices can rush up suddenly. Again, full time traders and investors can jump at the opportunity to unload at a decent profit only to buy back at lower prices when the buying frenzy stops. Of course, if the buying is steady and continuous, there is ample time for all investors to take advantage of the buying.
I now appreciate that to be a full time investor is to be available for the market. A full time investor is not glued to his screen all the time. He can do whatever he wishes to do in life but when an opportunity surfaces in the market, he is available to put his full concentration as and when this is required.
Nothing beats the life of being a full time investor.... you can do what you like and every now and then, there will be bouts of excitement when the market presents opportunities to you.
