The stark survey result that Singapore has the HIGHEST number of pupils with One-On-One Tuition indicates that the current educational model needs to discard the stressful streaming & high-stake exam model. m.todayonline.com/singapore/mp-proposes-piloting-cluster-schools-without-exams-streaming Sadly, there are parents who are still Resistant to the pilot scheme of scrapping the exorbitant tuition system.
(almost like people being psycho to rely on the professional advice of fund managers to buy unit trust, instead of low-cost index fund like STI ETF with minimal annual cost of 0.3%)
& insist that tuition works miracle ... but the truth is that they kill the creativity & interest of learning in their beloved kids.  My boy has become more cheerful ever since we stop the Chinese tuition when he was being promoted to Secondary 1 this year. Part of the reason that contribute to the lucrative Tuition industry is the Erosion of VALUE system.
You could hear kids naming their material prizes (Ipad, Iphone, overseas holidays, etc) to attain the grades.
 This is supposed to be the kids’ responsibility, considering that they are putting more efforts in their STUDIES so they could have MORE CHOICES IN LIFE, that’s what I told my son.
