I was once in this line of business. The key to the success of this business was the willingness of customers to buy packages which guarantees a steady stream of revenues & profits... as well as provide the capital for expansion. However, with the collapse of several beauty spas, customers are now less willing to buy packages. This significantly reduces the cash for expansion and hence, I can understand why the business is now much tougher to run.
