We are planning to visit Hong Kong & Macau in June. Last June we were in Hong Kong and we enjoyed it very much. Good shopping and good food. Most likely, we will stay at Langham Place, a hotel we like very much. The club floor there is very good as it is always stocked up with lots of food and drinks all the time. The downside is that we are bound to gain a bit of weight during the trip!
As we visited all the tourist spots last year, we are going to do more shopping this time around. We will certainly go back to the Citigate outlet mall near the Hong Kong airport. May also pick up some Apple stuff as these are 10% cheaper than in Singapore.
We have never been to Macau and look forward to taking the 1 hour ferry from Hong Kong. We will probably stay there for 2 nights at the Venetian Macau. I hear that this is a beautiful hotel with excellent shopping and eating places all around. No, I am not interested in the casino as our local stockmarket is good enough for me!

We are planning our HK trip but worried about the weather condition in the month of June. Advised from friends to avoid the period of May to July period as it is extremely hot, since we are visiting the Disneyland. Anybody else has other recommended of hotel accommodation, besides Langham Place? We are planning to visit Hong Kong & Macau in June. Last June we were in Hong Kong and we enjoyed it very much. Last year, we were in HK in mid June and it was OK. Yes, as hot as Singapore in the afternoons but in the evenings, it was nice and cool. Yes, if you are visiting Disneyland, it may not be the best of weather. For hotels, do visit Tripadvisor. Langham Place is number 9 there and probably the one with the most comments. Very hazy in Hong Kong today. According to the hotel folks, the haze here clears within a day. Hopefully, tomorrow it will be better to go outdoors. View from Langham Place hotel, Mongkok.

Hi Oldman, How is the weather today? Has the haze clear? Wonder whether you have experience with Metropark Mongkok Hotel, which seems to be a value for money (S$129 per night) accommodation for a Standard room with room size of 19 sq.m. in Kowloon. We are visiting Hong Kong in September. Very hazy in Hong Kong today. According to the hotel folks, the haze here clears within a day. Hopefully, tomorrow it will be better to go outdoors.

Weather in Hong Kong is back to hot and humid. Was out walking along Nathan Road last evening and was sweating by the time we got back. So, the hotel receptionist was right. Haze cleared up within a day. Sorry, I don't know Hong Kong well and cannot comment on the hotel. Tripadvisor is pretty good with her comments. Am in Citigate outlet mall now waiting for my wife and daughter to do their shopping!

Hi Oldman, appreciate update on the weather condition. We had booked 2 Superior rooms (24 sq.m.) at Metropark Mongkok hotel as there are connecting rooms available. Price is reasonable at S$148.83 per night for Superior room at Metropark Mongkok Hotel as compared to - S$549 (HKD$3,400) in HK Disneyland Hotel or - S$379 (HKD$2,350) in Disney's Hollywood Hotel I prefer cheaper shopping option like Ladies Market. The Venetian Macau is simply amazing. Tons of money must have been poured into this massive complex of builidngs. The connected Shoppes at Venetian is so large that it took us over 2 hours just to walk the entire area. It was fully airconed with all the ceilings painted as if it were the sky. When you walk, you get the feeling that the painted clouds were actually moving with you. I was simply awed by its size and opulence. The Shoppes at Venetian were connected to 2 other shopping centres owned by Sands. But the other 2 were not as impressive as this one. Best place to stay is still in Venetian Macau. If you are interested in visiting, best to go for the bigger suites as this cost just a bit more and came with transportation from the ferry terminal and a personalised service to bring you directly to your room to have your checkin done ( bypassing the notorious check in counter queues). Prior to arrival, they asked whether I was celebrating any occasion and of couse I said I was and when we arrived, there was a nice bottle of wine, cupcakes and nicely decorated bed. Also, better to book at least 1 month in advance as they will give a 20 percent discount. I checked with their other offers and this was better than any of their other packages. There is another complex nearby called The City of Dreams which is where Grand Hyatt, Hard Rock and Crown Towers hotels are. However, there was nothing really worth seeing here and after 10 minutes, we walked back to the Venetian. This place is where the House of the Dancing Water show is held. As for the town, we just went to Senado Square. Touristy place with lots of old Portugese architecture. Most shops sell much the same things..... egg tarts, biscuits and BBQ meat. Even Bee Cheng Hiang was competing there with all the other BBQ meat sellers. We made a mistake by taking a taxi there as it is not easy to find taxis even in town. This is because the tourists usually use the free shuttle buses provided by the hotels from one hotel to another sister hotel. As a result, the demand for taxi services must have been affected and this probably accounted for the reduced number of taxis available. In the end, we had to look for a hotel that provided free transportation back to the Cotai strip of hotels.
