odie, With just 7 candles; UOB's sudden spike in price today trapped many experienced traders (short-sellers). Similar stocks which run-up after a Blue-sky breakout showed a nightmare to those who betted on the wrong side of the game. My friend who longed and lost > 20% on Cosco in 2011 using CFD was a good example...short or long, the practice of stop-loss is extremely important. If wrong, admit defeat, cut-loss and run road fast! UOB's current bullishness seemed to suggest that besides severe short-squeeze, the BBs may be betting on some +ve corporate news. Chart pattern is similar to SMRT and SingPost; a sudden spike could be the prelude to a +ve event announcement. In 2007, the catalyst which caused SGX's share price to spike was that, TSE bought 4.99% of SGX shares at 37.4b yen ($303 million) on 15 June 2007.
