The plastic on my wife's car remote control was worn out so badly that one can see the switches beneath it. The distributor wanted to charge me $160 for the replacement and so I went to a few shops that duplicate keys as they also sell these car remote controls. They quoted $70.... still quite a bit to pay for just the housing of the car remote control given that the electronics will simply be moved across. The pricing from both the distributor and the shops is just for the housing of the remote control. Then, I went to the internet and found the exact remote control housing for just $10. This arrived a few days ago and the quality is just the same. Most probably, everyone buys from one manufacturer based in China anyway. Fixing it took a bit longer as I was not familiar with the unique spring mechanism and there were no instructions. But after 15 min toying around, I figured it out and the remote control was replaced. Amazing the difference in pricing from $10 to $70 to $160 depending on where you get the replacement. I guess it is getting tougher for retailers if more consumers are like me! www.aliexpress.com/item/3-Buttons-FOB-Blank-FLIP-Remote-Key-Case-For-PEUGEOT-Citroen/731710495.html

Hi me200, thank you for sharing this amazing analogy to illustrate value investing. Came across a similar concept in this book, 《华伦.巴菲特教你投资必选的15堂课》 (literary translated as Warren Buffett teaches you 15 Essential Lessons to choose in Investment) stated that the mistake committed by businessman (in this case investors) is "只开车,不看路“
Only Drive Car, Don't look at Road 蛮干, 路都走错了, 走得远远, 也就错得愈远。 By acting rashly, the driver moves in the wrong direction. The further he moves, the greater is the mistake.

I did not know the crash of the 3 stocks would have so much effect. My car's COE is expiring next Match, will I be able to get cheaper COE by then?

Sorry, I don't see COEs coming down significantly anytime soon. I too am waiting for the COEs to fall back to $30K before deciding whether to change cars.

The COE is against the law of gravity. IMO, I think the Cat B and Open will stay above $70K as there are demand. People is this catogory are whealty and they (majority) don't mind to pay for high COE since the ratio of COE-to-OMV is low compare to Cat A. Some cars are registered under company (the 'driver' don't care of COE cost). CatA $76K/$18K = 4.2 CatB $80K/$50K = 1.6 (some high end car OMV > 100K) Unless there is recession or stock market crash, I expect the COE will remain high. I hope I am wrong as I also waiting for the right time (<$40K) to change my car.

Some elements of truth.
COE prices are soaring because the economy is doing well and not because the Government is further slowing the growth in the vehicle population to 0.5 per cent, as that kicks in only in August, Transport Minister Lui Tuck Yew said.
