Looks like it may be back to square one soon when the premium brands bring in cars that will fill Cat A again..... goes to show that where is a vacuum, businesses will sooner or later, fill it. Premium presence in Cat A

As expected, the distributor has raised the prices of the cars that were originally in Cat A, by $6,000 in keeping with the difference in premium between the Cat A and Cat B prices. I will not be surprised that at the next bidding in Feb, Cat B prices will go up even more... and with it, the price of the car. By the way, I tried selling my older car through SgCarMart as I saw that many of the Direct Owner adverts show a Sold sign. After paying the listing fee of $48 and then listing my car at a 5% discount to similar cars in the site, I was of course, very hopeful. As the days passed, my hopes disappeared. I only had calls from dealers who wanted to buy the car very very cheap. So much so that it made more financial sense for me to sell it as part exchange for the new car. When I withdrew my advert, I then realised why so many of these cars had the "Sold" sign. Well, the only way to withdraw the advert was to state that it was sold! So folks, we should not believe everything that we read. Many times, if it sounds too good to be true, it usually is. I learnt my lesson by paying $48. Decided to change my wife's car as it has started giving problems in the last year. The salesman was able to give me an attractive price as they were trying to clear stocks of Cat A cars that will be moved over to Cat B next month. My rationale is that when these cars move over to Cat B, the price of the COE for Cat B is likely to go up at least in the short term and with it, the price of the Cat A car that is moving to Cat B. Secondly, the secondhand price of my wife's Cat A car is likely to go down as the COE for Cat A is likely to fall. This will drag down the price of Cat A cars in the showroom and with it, the prices of all secondhand cars with Cat A COEs. Looking into the distance, I think the government's objective is to keep Cat A COEs low while market forces will keep pushing Cat B COEs up. It makes sense to get a Cat A car moving to Cat B as in the future, I think the prevailing quota premium for Cat A cars will remain affordable and hence, within 10 years, one can revalidate a Cat A car. It may not be that cheap to revalidate a Cat B car in the future (unless the economy tanks which is a sure thing... just that we don't know when). Of course, more importantly, I am not sure if we can wait 6 months as my wife's car is going to the workshop too often. Like with stocks, time will tell if I have made the right decision.

I have monitor the used hand car @sgcarmart for last 2 months. My observation is that some of the dealers change their posted date to the latest date. For example, a car was posted on 16Dec2013, then after 1~2 weeks the same car appear again on 26Dec2013 as "just arrive".
It appear to me that either the dealer can change the posted at will or they buy another ads so that they can post the same car to latest date. I believe the later.
It also means that the used car turnover rate is slower.
However, they maintain the price despite slower turnover rate.

Hate to let you know but again, this is likely to be a system feature. For those of us who pay $48, we have this feature. Then, if you pay an additional $48, you have loads more features. Dealers I am sure have even more features. All courtesy of the system. Put another way, it is a seller friendly site. www.sgcarmart.com/owner/index.phpI too think that the turnaround rate for selling a car is very low regardless of what the advertisements tell us. Before putting the advert in sgcarmart, I placed it in STCars as this was free. Well, I had zero response even though I priced the car at a 5% discount to other cars listed. Cars that appear in sgcarmart appear also on STCars but not the other way around for the free ads in STCars. As sgcarmart is said to have 30 mil pageviews a month compared to the 1 mil in STCars, I then advertised on sgcarmart without much success either. www.stcars.sg/guides-articles/advertise-car-for-sale-on-stcars-website-its-free-144325------------------ What is Auto-Refresh?An auto refresh is an entitlement for all advertisements. Your advertisement will be pushed to the front pages of our website after 3 weeks. This is free of charge, and will happen only once for your 6-week advertisement. Sometime driving in the night is very stressful as some of the cyclist does not have proper head/tail light. They zigzag as they like as if we will give way to them. Sign.
With the style these cyclists behave themselves, they will high probability that they will get into trouble.
p.s. Oldman, your in-car HD video is super clear, even at night. Which brand and model are you using?
Was driving along Serangoon Gardens last night when I saw this dangerous cyclist. Notice how he cuts in front of the white car first while his friend in the other bicycle cleverly goes behind the car. Then, this young and foolish cyclist tries to cut a car that is obviously turning into a lane. Sadly, I think it is only a matter of time before he gets himself into trouble.

me200, I am a cheapskate. I buy most of these stuff from aliexpress or dealextreme. The car camera was bought 2 years ago. They no longer carry this as I am sure that there are newer models available. Not bad as these have lasted over 2 years and still giving good service. Prices for these have since gone down. If you prefer buying these stuff locally, there is a shop called House of Mouse that you may want to visit (http://www.houseofmouse.com.sg/) By the way, the resolution is much better than in Youtube as I usually play these in a small window on the PC and then use aTubeCatcher to capture the video off the screen. This is much quicker than opening an editing tool and then selecting the scenes that you want. dx.com/p/720p-wide-angle-digital-car-dvr-camcorder-w-4-ir-led-night-vision-sd-av-black-2-5-lcd-70711#.UunuuvmSx8FSometime driving in the night is very stressful as some of the cyclist does not have proper head/tail light. The stock market must have had an effect on the COE prices as the price of Cat B COE is slightly lower than last month. What is even more surprising is that price of the Cat A COE remains relatively unchanged. Also surprisingly, the open cat COE quota that was cut from 261 to 208 showed a slight drop in the premium from $78,810 to the current $77,003. Goes to show that the stock market has a more direct effect on the COE premiums than anything else!

Never expected to see a traffic cone in the fast lane.... goes to show that we have to be alert at all times while driving. Swerving to avoid the cone may result in an accident. The driver has to make a split second decision as to what he wants to do. Interestingly, a few seconds later, there was an accident in front. Not sure whether these are related.
Appears too that the CTE tunnel is not monitored all the time as the lane information at the top of the tunnel shows green for all lanes.

With the stock market appearing bullish again, I will not be surprised that the COE prices will be much higher when bidding ends at 4pm this Wed. I think the best gauge of the sentiments of the stock market is our COE prices! Cat B & Open Cat quotas are lower than the last bidding exercise (Cat B quota is 5 less and open cat is 15 less). ------------- The details of the February 2014 second open bidding exercise for Certificates of Entitlement (COEs) are as follows: Tender opens: Monday, 17 February 2014, 12 noon Tender closes: Wednesday, 19 February 2014, 4.00 pm Tender results: Wednesday, 19 February 2014 (Available on the www.onemotoring.com.sg website) The total quota available for this tender is 1,547 for the following vehicle categories: NON-TRANSFERABLE CATEGORIES: Category A : Cars (1,600cc and below) 362 Category B : Cars (1,601cc and above) 355 Category D : Motorcycles 360 TRANSFERABLE CATEGORIES: Category C : Goods Vehicles and Buses 277 Category E : Open Category 193
